Brown Athletics Recap of Cornell's 40 Point Victory

Final Stats

Providence, RI - Cornell, the defending Ivy League Champions, maintained first place in the Ivy League standings with a 85-45 victory over Brown Saturday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The win lifts the Big Red to 18-8 overall and 8-2 in the Ivy League, while Brown falls to 7-17, 1-9 in Ivy play.

The Bears were led by sophomore Peter Sullivan, who scored 12 points, and junior Matt Mullery, who netted 10 of his 11 points in the first half. Both Sullivan and Mullery connected on 5 of 9 field goals for the game.

Jeff Foote, Cornell's 7-foot center, led five Big Red players in double figures with 16 points.

Playing with out senior forward Scott Friske, who missed his second straight game due to illness, the Bears struggled on the backboards and were out-rebounded by the Big Red by a 48-29 margin.

The Bears fell behind 44-27 at the half, and the Big Red opened the second half with a 10-0 run to build a 54-27 lead on a lay-up by Brian Keefer with 15:54 remaining in the game.

Brown also got solid production from sophomore Chris Taylor and senior Chris Skrelja, who scored six points each. Skrelja added six assists and five rebounds for the Bears.

Cornell's Ryan Wittmann tossed in 15 points, connecting on 3 of 4 treys, while Louis Dale netted 12 points.

The Bears return to the hardwood next weekend, February 27 and 28, traveling to Princeton and Penn for their final road trip of the season.
