PRINCETON, N.J. -- The race for the 2010-11 Ivy League men's basketball title kicks into the next gear this weekend with teams meeting each other for the second time this season.
Princeton and Harvard continue to be the front-runners with the Tigers holding on to their one-game lead atop the League standings. Both have to keep pace on the road this weekend with Princeton traveling to Yale and Harvard at Cornell Friday night followed by Princeton at Brown and Harvard at Columbia Saturday night. Friday's Princeton-Yale game will be broadcasted live on the YES Network beginning at 7 p.m.
Princeton is enjoying its best start (19-4) since 1997-98 and is the 30th Ivy team and 11th Tiger team to be undefeated at the halfway mark of the conference schedule. The last Princeton team to stand 7-0 at the midway point was in 1998-99 and the last Ivy team to do so was Cornell in 2007-08. That year's Big Red squad was also the last to finish with a perfect 14-0 League mark.
Harvard goes into the weekend coming off an emotional 24-point comeback win over Brown. The 24-point comeback is tied for the 10th-largest second-half deficit overcome and 14th-largest all-time deficit overcome in NCAA Division I men's basketball history. The feat is also the second-largest deficit overcome by an Ivy League team behind Princeton's 27-point, come-from-behind victory over Penn on Feb. 9, 1999. The Crimson swept Cornell and Columbia in the friendly confines of Lavietes Pavilion earlier in the month. The Big Red looks to put up a road block in Harvard's Ivy title run and avenge an earlier loss to Dartmouth, the Big Green's only Ancient Eight win so far this season...
