ITHACA, N.Y. — With wins in three of its last five games, the Cornell men's basketball team will hit the road for the final time in 2010-11 in search of the big “W” when the Big Red visits Princeton on Friday and Penn on Saturday, with both games tipping off at 7 p.m. Barry Leonard will provide the call on 93.5 WVBR-FM and on the internet as part of the RedCast subscription service.
Cornell split a four-game homestand, including last weekend's 20-point win over Dartmouth and 13-point loss to Ivy leader Harvard. The Big Red hit 22 3-pointers in the two games, including 16 treys in a 96-point effort against the Big Green. Junior Chris Wroblewski scored 19 points and had nine assists in the win, while sophomore Errick Peck scored a career-high 22 points. Sophomore Johnathan Gray had a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double against Dartmouth.
Wroblewski, who was named to the Capital One Academic All-America third team earlier this week, continues to lead the Big Red in scoring (14.7 ppg.) and assists (5.4 apg.), while classmate Drew Ferry is pouring in 11.8 ppg. Peck continued his outstanding play and is now averaging 13.8 points over his last 18 games and 11.4 ppg. for the season. Cornell ranks seventh nationally in 3-point field goals per game (9.1).
The Tigers, percentage points behind Harvard atop the Ivy League after its loss at Brown last weekend, need to keep pace with the Crimson prior to their matchup next weekend. Already at 20 wins, head coach Sydney Johnson's team has four double figure scorers. The Quakers won at both Brown and Yale last weekend after dropping four straight, including three in overtime, in Ivy League play.

LAST TIME VS. PRINCETON: Senior Kareem Maddox, one of the leading candidates for the 2010-11 Ivy League Player of the Year, made two huge plays in the final minute as Princeton escaped Newman Arena with a 57-55 victory over Cornell on Feb. 12, 2011. Maddox tied the score with just under two minutes to play in the second half, then hit the go-ahead jumper on a broken play with 10 seconds remaining. The senior then made his own bucket stand up, blocking what appeared to be a game-tying putback attempt by Mark Coury with two seconds to play, His block ended in the hands of Big Red junior Drew Ferry, whose 3-point attempt was just left as the horn sounded. The 6-8 Maddox finished the contest with a game-high23 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots, as well as three assists and a steal in 35 minutes. He hit on 8-of-10 field goals from the field and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. He was the only Tiger in double figures. Cornell placed three in double figures, with junior Chris Wroblewski leading the way with 14 points, four assists and four steals. Errick Peck had 13 points and two blocked shots and Mark Coury notched 10 points, six rebounds a block and a steal. As a team, the Big Red forced 18 Tiger turnovers and picked up 11 steals. He was one of two Ivy League players to earn the honor, joining Brown's Garrett Leffelman, a second-team member. Wroblewski is the fourth Cornellian to earn a spot on the Academic All-America team and the first non-senior. Jeff Gaca was a third-team pick in 1993, Lenny Collins was a third-team member in 2006 and Graham Dow earned first-team accolades in 2007.
