Cornell head coach Bill Courtney is in his second season at Cornell (20-32, .385) ... Courtney became the fifth Robert E. Gallagher '44 Coach of Men's Basketball at Cornell on April 23, 2010.
ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's basketball team will close out its conference road slate this weekend when it visits Brown and Yale this weekend. The Big Red will face the Bears on Friday, Feb. 24 and the Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 25. Both contests will tip at 7 p.m. Barry Leonard will provide the call on HITS 103.3 FM or on RedCast at www.CornellBigRed.com. Cornell was swept on the treacherous Penn-Princeton road trip, dropping the Big Red back to the .500 mark. With four games remaining, head coach Bill Courtney's squad will need to go 4-0 to post a .500 overall record and two wins to finish .500 in conference action. With one win, the Big Red would surpass last season's overall win total and match its Ancient Eight wins mark.
Chris Wroblewski, a senior co-captain, became the school's 24th 1,000-point scorer earlier this season. He enters the contest averaging 10.8 points, 5.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Those numbers are even better in Ivy play (12.6 ppg., 5.0 apg., 4.8 rpg., 1.9 spg.) while shooting 40 percent from the floor and 46 percent from 3-point range.
Junior Johnathan Gray, a former walk-on, is the team's leading scorer in conference play (12.6 ppg.) and os shooting 48 percent from the floor and 43 percent from behind the arc over his last 10 games.
Senior Drew Ferry is posting a team-high 11.5 points and ranks in the top 15 nationally in 3-pointers made per game (3.0), while Shonn Miller is scoring 9.1 ppg. and has set school freshman rebounding (6.1 rpg.) and blocked shots (1.8 bpg.). Freshman Galal Cancer is averaging 6.4 ppg., 2.8 apg., 2.6 rpg. and 1.2 spg.
ABOUT BROWN
* 2011-12 Record: 7-20 (1-9 Ivy League).
* Head Coach: Jesse Agel (Vermont '84), 38-77, fourth season at Brown.
* Brown has lost 11 of its last 13 contests and 14 of its last 17 entering the weekend.
* Three players are averaging double figures in the scoring column, with Sean McGonagill (13.9 ppg., 5.6 apg., 4.2 rpg., 1.3 spg.) leading the way. Toledo transfer Stephen Albrecht is averaging 10.2 ppg., while Andrew McCarthy is posting 10.3 ppg. to go along with 7.5 rpg. and 1.4 bpg.
* Brown is shooting 41 percent from the floor, but opponents are shooting 45 percent and 40 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. The Bears are also shooting a league-worst 62 percent from the free-throw line and are being outrebounded by -6.3.
* Fourth-year head coach Jesse Agel, a longtime assistant at Vermont and Brown, guides one of the circuits top offensive units year-in and year-out. He has posted a 38-77 career head coaching record entering the weekend.
THE SERIES: Cornell leads the series 71-45, dating back to the first meeting between the teams in the 1949-50 season. The Big Red is 14-1 in the last 15 contests against the Bears and has won 11 straight. During Cornell's 11-game win streak, it has won by an average of 15.5 points per game.
LAST TIME VS. BROWN: The Cornell men's basketball team opened the second half on a 15-1 run and cruised to its third straight win, a 72-63 victory over Brown on at Newman Arena. A day after scoring a career-high 29 points in an overtime win over Yale, junior Johnathan Gray notched a team-best 16 points and nine rebounds, while senior Chris Wroblewski continued his fantastic all-around play with 15 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals. Drew Ferry rounded out three double figure scorers with 11 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Freshman Shonn Miller had nine points, three rebounds and three blocked shots in the victory. The Big Red shot 47 percent overall and a blazing 12-of-23 from beyond the arc (52 percent). Cornell assisted on 17 baskets and turned the ball over just nine times as a team. Matt Sullivan scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Brown attack, while Stephen Albrecht had 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and had four assists. Tyler Ponticelli recorded 10 rebounds for the Bears, who held a 41-32 edge on the backboards. Brown shot 39 percent from the floor and 36 percent from 3-point range in the loss.

* 2011-12 Record: 17-7 (7-3 Ivy League).
* Head Coach: James Jones (Albany '86), 174-188, 13th season at Yale.
* At 17-7 (7-3 Ivy), Yale is in third place in the Ancient Eight, two games behind league leader Harvard. The Crimson have already swept the season series.
* Ivy League Player of the Year candidate Greg Mangano is averaging 18.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game for the Bulldogs. He is making 48 percent of his field goals
* Reggie Wilhite (12.5 ppg., 5.6 rpg., 3.8 apg., 2.2 spg.) and Austin Morgan (12.2 ppg.) are also scoring in double figures.
* As a team, Yale is shooting 44 percent from the floor and is outrebounding opponents by +5.5 per game. Defensively, the Bulldogs are limiting opponents to 34 percent shooting from 3-point range.
* The dean of the Ivy League coaches, James Jones is in his 13th season at the helm of the Bulldog program. He led Yale to the 2001-02 Ivy League title and has the program in the mix for the 2010-11 crown.
THE SERIES: Cornell leads 109-102 overall in a series that dates back to the 1898-99 campaign. Cornell has had the best of the series recently, winning 10 of the last 13 meetings. The Big Red's last seven wins over the Bulldogs have come by an average of 17.3 points per game.
LAST TIME VS. YALE: Junior Johnathan Gray had a career-high 29 points and senior Chris Wroblewski added 18 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds as the duo hit big shot after big shot in leading Cornell to an 85-84 overtime victory over Yale at Newman Arena. Gray, who bested his previous career high of 18 points set earlier this year against Bucknell, hit 10-of-18 shots from the floor and 6-of-8 shots from 3-point range. He added six rebounds in the victory. Wroblewski was also outstanding, particularly in the final three minutes of regulation and overtime. He ended the night with zero turnovers while repeatedly getting the Big Red shots late in the contest. He nailed a pair of huge jumpers in the final two minutes and set up Eitan Chemerinski for a layup and Gray for a trey that led to overtime. The Big Red's pressure defense caused fits for the Bulldogs, as Cornell scored 23 points off 15 Yale turnovers. The home team won despite allowing the bigger Bulldogs to shoot 53 percent from the floor by hitting 71 percent in the extra period as the Big Red improved to 3-0 in overtime at home this season and 3-1 overall. Cornell hit 12 3-pointers and assisted on 20 baskets. The home team overcame a 14-point first half deficit to win its third contest in the last four outings. Austin Morgan had a team-high 22 points to lead four Yale players in double figures, with Michael Grace scoring 15, Greg Mangano notching 14 and Jeremiah Kreisberg posting 13 points and nine boards.
TALL IVY: Over the last six seasons, Cornell's 58-22 record is the best among Ivy League teams in conference action. Penn, who claimed the 2006-07 title, is second at 46-32, followed by Yale (46-34), and 2010-11 Ivy champions Harvard (45-35) and Princeton (42-36). Rounding out the field is Columbia (35-45), Brown (30-50) and Dartmouth (17-63).
CORNELL IN OVERTIME:
* Cornell is 3-1 this season in overtime in 2011-12.
* In two seasons under head coach Bill Courtney, the Big Red is 4-1.
* All-time, dating back to the first overtime game against Penn way back in 1922, Cornell is 38-45 in games that go an extra period.

MILLER CHALLENGING ROOKIE RECORDS: Freshman Shonn Miller has already set a freshman record for blocked shots in a season (43, good for 10th best in school history), nearly doubling the previous record of 22 by Jeffrion Aubry during the 1995-96 campaign. He also owns the school freshman rebounding record with 146, surpassing Lenny Collins' 139 in 2002-03. Miller sits 13th on the school's freshman scoring chart with his 219 points. To reach the top 10, Miller would need to average 6.5 ppg. over the remaining four regular season contests.
WROBLEWSKI NEARING MILESTONES: With four games remaining in his collegiate career, senior guard Chris Wroblewski is closing in one numerous milestones. He enters his final road weekend of conference play just eight assists shy of surpassing former backcourt mate Louis Dale '10 as the school's all-time assist leader. Dale graduated with 470 and Wroblewski enters the weekend with 463. He currently ranks 15th on the school's career scoring list with 1,137 points and needs 16 points to reach 14th and 34 points to reach 13th. His 182 career 3-pointers is good for fifth, just seven out of fourth, while his .416 percentage is also fifth-best all-time. Wroblewski also ranks among the school's career leaders in free throws made, free-throw percentage, steals, games played, games started and minutes played. His .471 3-point percentage in Ivy League play ranks among the best ever.
WROBLEWSKI NAMED IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Feb. 13): Senior Chris Wroblewski was simply dominant in a pair of wins over Yale and Brown, averaging 16.5 points, 9.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while turning the ball over just once all weekend in 76 minutes. Wroblewski shot 50 percent from the floor, 63 percent from three-point range, connected on all four free throw attempts, and even added a block. In the Big Red's 85-84 overtime win over Yale, he fell just two rebounds shy of Cornell's first-ever triple double, ending the night with 18 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals without a turnover in 42 minutes. In the final three minutes of regulation, Wroblewski hit a pair of jumpers, assisted on a huge three-point basket and had three rebounds, including an offensive tap-out that led to a possession that Cornell scored on. In overtime, Wroblewski had an offensive rebound and dished off to an open shooter for a three-pointer to make it a two-possession game, and after Yale cut the deficit to one, hit a fall-away baseline jumper over Yale's 6-10 Greg Mangano to put Cornell up 84-81 with 27 seconds to play. The following night against Brown he added 15 points, eight assists, five rebounds, two steals and one turnover in the 72-63 victory. He made 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc and posted nine points and four assists in the decisive second half.
CORNELL HAS FIVE IVY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARDS:
Nov. 14 — Shonn Miller's first varsity appearance was enough to catch the eye of the league after a solid opening effort at St. Bonaventure. Miller connected on all three of his field goals, including a 3-pointer, and added a team-high four rebounds in Cornell's 79-58 loss to the Bonnies. He added a blocked shot and a steal.
Nov. 21 — Shonn Miller averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 0.7 steals in just 23.3 minutes per game in helping Cornell go 2-1. He shot 46 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the free-throw line. He reached double figures in two of the three contests. Miller opened the week with career highs of 19 points and eight rebounds to go along with a block and a steal in a win over Binghamton. He eight points and two rebounds against Buffalo and notched 10 points, six rebounds and two blocked two shots against reigning America East champion and preseason favorite Boston University.
Nov. 28 — Shonn Miller averaged 8.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in two games for the Big Red, including earning his first career starts. He had eight points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals against an athletic Delaware frontcourt. He answered that performance with nine points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal against American.
Dec. 19 — Galal Cancer scored 11 points, dished seven assists, snatched five rebounds and picked up four steals in an 85-82 overtime victory over the Great Danes. He made 5-of-10 field goals while collecting career highs in assists and steals. He was also just two points off his career scoring high. Cancer had four points, two rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in the final minute of regulation for the Big Red, who overcame a 10-point deficit with nine minutes to play to force an extra session.
Feb. 6 — Shonn Miller averaged 12.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in two contests while shooting 56 percent from the field in a weekend split at Harvard and Dartmouth. He was instrumental in the Big Red's first road victory of the season, a 68-59 triumph at Dartmouth, with his third career double-double. Miller posted 15 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a block and a steal. He had nine points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a 71-60 loss at No. 23 Harvard on Friday evening.
CORNELL BEYOND THE ARC — 600 AND COUNTING: The Big Red hit eight 3-pointers at Princeton on Feb. 18, its 651st consecutive game with a made trey. With five 3-pointers at Seton Hall on Nov. 14, 2010, Cornell extended its streak of games with at least one 3-pointer to 600. The last time Cornell did not hit a 3-pointer was against Denison in the 1988-89 season opener (0-for-2). Since the 3-point shot came into effect in NCAA play during the 1986-87 season, Cornell has hit at least one shot behind the arc in 699 of 703 games, connecting on 4,390 treys, an average of 6.2 per game. Cornell has hit at least 10 3-pointers in a game 36 times in 85 games over the last three years, including an Ivy League single-game record 20 at Brown in 2009-10.
BOMBS AWAY: Cornell made 251 3-pointers in 28 contests during the 2010-11 campaign. The 9.0 3-pointers per game ranked second all-time in a season for the Big Red (behind only the 9.6 per game in 2009-10) and ranked sixth among all Division I teams a season ago. Last season, Cornell ranked first nationally in 3-point percentage (.430) and third in 3-pointers made per game in 2009-10, and ranked in the top 20 nationally in 3-point percentage in 2008-09 (fourth, .411), 2007-08 (fourth, .409) and 2006-07 (18th, .396).
STATING THE STATES: Members of the Cornell basketball team represent 16 states and one Canadian province.
BIG RED CAPTAINS: Cornell's senior backcourt of Drew Ferry and Chris Wroblewski will serve as co-captains for the 2011-12 season. Wroblewski is in his second year as team captain, becoming the 13th player to serve as captain for at least two years.
NEXT UP: Cornell closes out the 2011-12 regular season by welcoming Dartmouth (Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m.) and Harvard (Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m.) to Newman Arena. The Big Red will honor seniors Drew Ferry, Anthony Gatlin, Max Groebe and Chris Wroblewski prior to Saturday's contest on Senior Day.
