Brown Athletics Game Notes for Cornell


Game Notes

Providence, RI - The Brown men's basketball will play its final home games of the 2011-2012 season, hosting Cornell on Friday, February 24 (7:00 pm) and Columbia on Saturday, February 25 (6:00 p.m.) at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown will honor its three seniors – Jean Harris '12, student-coach Marques Coleman '12, and manager Andrew Varone '12 – in ceremonies prior to Saturday night's game.

The Records: Brown (7-20, 1-9 Ivy) is coming off road losses to first place Harvard (69-42) and Dartmouth (58-53). Cornell (10-14, 5-5 Ivy) dropped games at Penn (73-66) and Princeton (75-57) last week, while Columbia (14-12, 3-7 Ivy) also lost games to the Tigers (77-66) and Quakers (61-59 ot).

Sullivan Named Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American: Brown junior guard Matthew Sullivan (Wilmette, IL) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Men's Basketball team in Division I, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Sullivan was named to the Academic All-American third team. An Economics concentrator, Sullivan has posted a 4.0 grade point average. He is averaging 9.6 points per game overall, including 12.4 ppg in Ivy League games, second best on the Brown team.

The Brown vs. Cornell Series Record: Brown and Cornell will be meeting for the 119th time, dating back to 1949-1950, with the Big Red holding a 72-46 series advantage. Cornell has won the last 11 games between the two teams, including a 72-63 win over the Bears when the two teams met on 2/11/12 in Ithaca. Brown' last win over the Big Red was a 69-64 victory in Ithaca on 2/26/06.
