Game Notes

Cornell notes | UAlbany notes

Albany, N.Y.- University at Albany (5-4) travels to Ithaca, N.Y. to meet Cornell (3-4) on Saturday, Dec. 17 in the Newman Arena at 2 pm. Big Red took last year's meeting between the two teams, 65-61, in the SEFCU Arena. The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 3-1, over the Big Red. Overall, UAlbany is 17-10 all-time versus the Ivy League.

Looking at the Upcoming Matchup

• Cornell begins the season 3-4 and stopped a two-game losing streak with a win over Lehigh, 81-79, in overtime. The Big Red have touted a good defense despite the under .500 record with 8.4 steals per game and keeping the opposition to a 25.5 shooting percentage behind-the-arc.

• UAlbany will have its hands tied as Cornell likes to add more than just one scorer into the mix. The Big Red is led by senior guard Drew Ferry, who is averaging 13.0 points per game, is a threat both inside and outside the arc. On the season, Ferry is shooting 44.9 percent (31-69) from inside the arc and 42.1 percent (24-57) from beyond the arc.

• Cornell, besides Ferry, has four other players that are averaging 8.0 points per game or higher on the season including Chris Wroblewski (9.4 ppg), Shonn Miller (9.4 ppg), Eitan Chemerinski (8.9 ppg), and Josh Figini (8.0 ppg).

• In last year's game, UAlbany went into the half up, 37-35, led by Tim Ambrose (11), Mike Black (10), and Logan Aronhalt (9) scoring 30 of the team's 37 points. With about five minutes remaining, Cornell would grab the lead, 60-54, but UAlbany wouldn't go away. The Great Danes would cut the deficit, 64-61, with a three by Luke Devlin with :34 remaining on the clock. But it wouldn't be enough with missed shot by Ambrose, the Big Red would go on to win the contest, 65-61.

• Saturday's game can be heard on Fox Sports 980 on WOFX-AM in Albany. Rodger Wyland will handle the play-by-play and is assisted by Zach Bye with the color analysis.
