St. John's Athletics Game Notes for Tonight's Game Against Cornell at The Garden

NEW YORK - Reaching its sixth title game in as many years, the St. John's men's basketball team (9-1) looks to capture its first Holiday Festival title since 2005, when the Red Storm takes on Cornell (8-2) on Monday night at The Garden. The 9:28 p.m. meeting between New York City's team and the upstate Ivy squad follows the consolation contest, featuring Davidson (3-8) and Hofstra (7-4).

  • Monday's games will be televised live in the New York area on MSG2, with Mike Crispino and Bucky Waters calling the action while Tina Cervasio reports from the sidelines. This evening's games will also be joined in progress by MSG at approximately 9 p.m. On the airwaves, the matchup can be heard on the official flagship of St. John's Basketball, Bloomberg Radio 1130-AM, with veteran play-by-play announcer John Minko and analyst Tarik Turner. The audio broadcast will also be streamed live on RedStormSports.com via StormTracker All-Access.

  • The Red Storm and the Big Red of Cornell have met only one time in history -- last season (Nov. 16, 2008) at Boston College in the NIT Season Tip-Off Opening Round. St. John's outscored Cornell 44-34 in the second half en route to the 86-75 victory. Anthony Mason Jr. totaled 24 points for the Red Storm, while D.J. Kennedy netted 22 on 9-for-16 shooting, Justin Burrell added 11 points and 11 boards and Malik Boothe contributed a career-high 14 points to go along with nine assists. Cornell standout Ryan Wittman scored a game-high 25 points (9-of-24 FGs), while big man Jeff Foote totaled 20 with seven boards.
