HEAD COACH STEVE DONAHUE
Cornell head coach Steve Donahue is in his 10th season at Cornell (119-134, .470) ... Donahue became the fourth Robert E. Gallagher ‘44 Coach of Men’s Basketball at Cornell on Sept. 6, 2000.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men’s basketball team will have another opportunity to rock the college basketball world when it visits No. 10/9 Syracuse on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. Barry Leonard will provide the call on 93.5 WVBR-FM, which can be heard live on the internet as part of the RedCast subscription service. The game is also being broadcast on ESPN360.

Cornell is off to a 2-1 start with road wins at Alabama and Massachusetts to open the season before falling in its home opener to Seton Hall, who like Syracuse also come out of arguably the top conference in the country, the Big East. Despite losing its 21-game home win streak, the Big Red were again able to prove to themselves they can hang with the nation’s best. Now, it will test itself against one of the top teams in the country.

The senior trio of Louis Dale (13.7 ppg., 3.7 apg.) Jeff Foote (11.0 ppg., 8.7 rpg.) and Ryan Wittman (17.0 ppg., 4.0 apg.) rank among the top players at their positions in all of college basketball and provide the Big Red with options at every position group.Seniors Mark Coury, Alex Tyler and Geoff Reeves, juniors Max Groebe and Adam Wire, sophomore Chris Wroblewski and freshman Errick Peck round out the rotation through three contests.

The Orange are again off and flying, opening the season with four straight wins, including victories over nationally ranked California and defending national champion North Carolina in the 2K Sports Classic benfitting Coaches vs. Cancer. The Orange have won their four games by an average of 27.5 points per game. Five players are averaging double figures led by Wes Johnson’s 17.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

ABOUT SYRACUSE
• Conference: Big East.
• Head Coach: Jim Boeheim (Syracuse ‘66), 34th season.
• Syracuse is off to a perfect 4-0 start that includes wins over defending national champion North Carolina and preseason top 20 school California to claim the 2K Sports Classic benfitting Coaches vs. Cancer.
• Despite losing three early entry candidates to the NBA Draft, including lottery pick Jonny Flynn, the Orange have rolled to its four wins by an average of 27.5 points.
• In its most recent victory, an 87-71 win over the Tar Heels came behind 25 points and eight rebounds by Wes Johnson.

CORNELL VS. THE BIG EAST
• Cornell is 46-116 all-time against current members of the Big East.
• The Big Red is 31-85 against Syracuse and has also played Cincinnati (1-0), Connecticut (1-1), Georgetown (1-0), Marquette (0-1), Notre Dame (1-7), Pittsburgh (5-11), Providence (0-1), Rutgers (1-1), St. John’s (0-1), Seton Hall (0-3), Villanova (2-2) and West Virginia (3-3).
• The Big Red has never played DePaul, Louisville or South Florida.
• This is the second of three possible meetings with Big East schools this season for the Big Red. Cornell lost to Seton Hall 89-79 on Nov. 20, then could meet St. John’s on day two of the ECAC Holiday Festival on Dec. 21 at Madison Square Garden.
• Cornell’s last win against a Big East team came in a 63-58 triumph over Villanova in the Quaker City Tournament on Dec. 30, 1969.
• Head coach Steve Donahue is 0-9 against the Big East at Cornell.

A WIN OVER SYRACUSE WOULD ...
• give Cornell wins in its first three road games of a season for the first time since the 1964-65 campaign.
• make Cornell 47-116 all-time against members of the Big East.
• be the first over a Big East team since 1969 against Villanova.

THE SERIES
• Syracuse leads the all-time series 85-31 and carries a 31-game win streak into the contest.
• The two teams had their first meeting in 1900-01, an 18-15 victory by the Orange.
• Cornell is 1-17 all-time at the Carrier Dome and 0-17 vs. the Orange. Its only win at the Dome was a 75-54 win over St. Francis (PA) to open the 2005-06 season as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

THE LAST TIME CORNELL DEFEATED SYRACUSE
• Things have changed mightily since the last time Cornell defeated Syracuse, a 93-81 Big Red win during the 1968-69 season in Ithaca.

THE STORY LINE
• The Big Red will attempt to snap a 31-game losing skid against Syracuse when it faces the Orange at the Carrier Dome.
• Cornell will be looking for its first win over a Big East school since a 63-58 triumph over Villanova in the Quaker City Tournament on Dec. 30, 1969..
• After opening the season with wins over Alabama and Massachusetts, the Big Red will be looking for its third big road win in its first four games.
• Cornell will be trying to knock off a top 25 team for the first time since topping then-No. 19 California 75-54 during the 1992-93 season.
• The Big Red gave the Orange all it could handle last season, as Ryan Wittman scored 33 points and hit nine 3-pointers in an 88-78 Big Red loss. Cornell led by as many as 16 points in the first half and by five at halftime (40-35).

CORNELL VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
• When Cornell faces No. 10/9 Syracuse, the Big Red will attempt a rarity — defeating a ranked team.
• The Big Red brings a 3-60 record (does not include one forfeit win) all-time against AP Top 25 teams and carries a 15-game losing streak in such games into the contest.
• Cornell’s last win was a 74-54 triumph over another Pac-10 opponent, then-No. 19 California, at the 1992 Seton Hall/Meadowlands Tournament. That team featured Jason Kidd (who sat out the game) and former NBA player Lamond Murray.
• The Big Red’s other wins came against then-No. 17 Syracuse in 1957 (60-54), then No. 3 Princeton in 1967 (62-56) and a win by forfeit against No. 15 Minnesota in a game vacated by the Gophers after using an ineligible player in 1976.

REVIEWING THE SETON HALL GAME
• Seton Hall got 33 points from Jeremy Hazell and snapped Cornell’s 21-game home win streak with an 89-79 victory over the Big Red on Nov. 20 at Newman Arena.
• Senior Ryan Wittman (24 points) and sophomore Chris Wroblewski (22 points) each had better than 20 points in the win.
• The Big Red hit 11 3-pointers in the loss.
• The Pirated held a 43-36 edge on the glass, including 19 big offensive rebounds.
• Cornell had 4,600 in attendance, a capacity-plus sellout for the 4,473-person capacity arena.
• Seton Hall was the first Big East team to ever play in Newman Arena.

GETTING DEFENSIVE
• Despite an upgraded schedule, Cornell’s defense has been strong in its first three games of 2009-10.
• Opponents are shooting just .428 from the floor and .341 from 3-point range in three games.
• Big Red opponents have hit just 15 treys in three games.
• Cornell has 16 blocked shots and 15 steals and has held opponents to a 0.7 assist/turnover ratio.

NEXT UP
• The Big Red will complete play in the Legends Classic at Drexel on Friday, Nov. 27, against Toledo at 2 p.m., before facing Vermont on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m. and the host Dragons on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 2:30 p.m.
• Cornell returns home on Saturday, Dec. 6 when it meets Saint Joseph’s at 2 p.m. at Newman Arena.
