Meet Coach Jon Jaques

Division III Stevens Tech announced the hiring of Jon Jaques ('10) as a new assistant coach. Stevens plays in the Empire 8 Conference with Ithaca College. Jaques returns "home" when Stevens visits Ithaca College on January 27, 2012. The Stevens press release notes:

The captain of the 2009-10 Cornell basketball team, Jonathan Jacques helped lead his team to three Ivy League Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances (2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10), including a trip to the “Sweet 16” in 2009-10. Jacques earned the Men’s Basketball Rebounder Award in 2009-10 for commitment to team, outstanding work ethic, and inspirational leadership, and after graduating, played one season in the Israeli Premier League (first division) for Ironi Ashkelon. Jacques played 65 games during his Big Red career, shooting better than 43 percent from three-point range. As a senior captain, he averaged 6.7 points per game, shot 50 percent from the floor, and 81 percent from the free-throw line. His 45.2 three-point field-goal percentage in 2009-10 is fifth all-time in Cornell men’s basketball history. Jacques currently writes a college basketball blog for Slam Magazine called “Blue Chips” and has been published on several occasions in the monthly print magazine. From 2008-2010, he wrote for The Quad, the New York Times’ online college sports blog. Jacques has been a tutor at the Huntington Learning Center since September and also interned for the American Cancer Society, Momentum Media Sports Publishing, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. “We couldn’t be more excited with these additions to our coaching staff,” said Hurley. “Both Waleed and Jonathan bring great experience and knowledge of the game to our program. Our student-athletes will benefit a great deal from two people that excelled on the court and in the classroom when they were in school.”
