Foote, Wittman Accept Invites To Portsmouth NBA Pre-Draft Camp

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell seniors Jeff Foote and Ryan Wittman have accepted invitations to compete in the 2010 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament NBA pre-draft camp it was announced today. The duo will be among 64 prefessional hopefuls who will compete in front of approximately 200 NBA general managers, scouts and international scouts from April 7-10 at Churchland HS in Portsmouth, Va.

Foote and Wittman will join fellow Ivy League hopeful Jeremy Lin of Harvard at the camp. The four-day, 12-game tournament began in 1953 and has spearheaded the rise to prominence of players such as John Stockton, Dennis Rodman, Tim Hardaway and Scottie Pippen. Six players that participated in last season’s Portsmouth tournament were selected in the 2009 NBA Draft and 57 alums are presently on NBA rosters.

Foote, a 7-0, 265-pound center, is averaging 12.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 blocks while shooting .616 from the floor while starting all 27 games for the Big Red. A three-time Ivy League Player of the Week, Foote has scored in double ! gures in 21 of 27 contests in 2009-10. He has posted eight double-doubles this season. Foote scored 16 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished off four assists and blocked three shots in a home win over Harvard, posted 19 points, 11 rebounds, five blocked shots and three assists at St. John’s. Foote set career highs of 28 points and 18 rebounds to go along with three blocked shots in the overtime win at Bucknell. Foote also posted 16 points, 14 rebounds and four assists in an overtime win over Davidson to earn MVP honors at the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival. The 2008-09 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, he has been a second-team All-Ivy selection each of the last two years.

Wittman, a 6-7, 215-pound forward, is the all-time leading scorer at Cornell (1,908 points, sixth in Ivy League history) and owns the Ivy record for career 3-pointers (355). A three-time All-Ivy selectio nand two-time unanimous first-team pick, Wittman is a two-time first-team NABC all-district selection. A 10-time Ivy League Player of the Year, he was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2006-07. This season, Wittman was named MVP of the Legends Classic Regional and to the all-tournament team at the MSG Holiday Festival. Wittman also earned a spot on collegeinsider.com’s Mid-Major All-Decade team. He scored 27 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots in a victory at Harvard and posted 13 points, including seven in the final 2:14, to lead Cornell to a 48-45 win at Princeton. Wittman scored 24 points with four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one turnover at No. 1 Kansas. He became the school’s all-time leading scorer with a career-high 34 points at La Salle to go along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals and notched 29 points, including a 35-foot 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to lift Cornell to a 91-88 win over Davidson. His shot was No. 3 on ESPN’s Plays of the Week. Against Big East squads, Wittman had 19 points and five rebounds at Syracuse and hit six 3-pointers on his way to a 24-point performance vs. Seton Hall. Wittman opened the season with 23 points, including hitting five 3-pointers, and added three rebounds and three assists in the win at Alabama.
