The Big Red's Big Louis Dale

He may be Cornell's smallest player, but he plays arguably the biggest role on the team. Louis Dale, Cornell's 5'11" senior point guard has a resume that is not matched by any player in the Ivy League. His accomplishments to date include:

• Two-time First-Team All-Ivy selection (2007-2008 & 2008-2009)
• NABC Second-Team All-District selection (2008-2009)
• National Bob Cousy Award nominee (2008-2009)
• Ivy League Player of the Year (2007-2008)
• Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American (2007-2008)
• Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection (2006-2007)

Last season, the Birmingham, Alabama native missed the first 8 games due to a preseason hamstring injury. Despite the nagging injury, Dale put together another tremendous individual season.

Dale averaged in Ivy games 13.3 points (7th in the Ivy League), 5.1 rebounds (11th in the Ivy League), and 3.6 assists (5th in the Ivy League behind Penn's Zach Rosen's league leading 5.1). Dale was also 7th in the league in defensive rebounding and 5th in assists/turnovers.

Even more impressive, Dale was extremely efficient as he registered these lofty numbers despite not falling within the Ivy League's top 10 in minutes played.

He also shot the ball well, 48% on FGs (10th in the Ivy League), 37% 3-PTs (11th in the Ivy League) and 82% FTs (4th in the Ivy League).

Then there are the intangibles. One of the Ivy League's elite defensive rebounders despite his 5'11" stature, Dale's leaping ability and knack for getting on the boards allows him to act as the catalyst for transition breaks. His speed pushing the ball up the floor also creates easy scoring opportunities for himself or teammates. And with his motor, opposing defensive presses are completely ineffective (witness Dale's zero turnovers in the 2009 NCAA Tournament against Missouri's famed "40 Minutes of Hell").

In the half court, Dale can bury the deep ball (a 41% career three-point shooter) or get himself into the lane for a floater or layup.

For these reasons, we expect Dale to contend for Ivy League Player of the Year during 2009-2010 and for a third consecutive First Team All-Ivy selection.
