With so many major camps and AAU events taking place during the early summer, several high school prospects have been menting Ivy League schools of interests while attending events such as the Hoop Group Elite camp and the Rumble in the Bronx tournament. Below is an update on several Ivy League prospects:Dwight Powell of the IMG Academy in Brandenton, Florida is arguably Harvard's top target. The 6'8" power forward is also considering Stanford, Cal, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Oregon State When asked if he had a favorite or any offers, he responded, “I don’t know about offers. I’m still pretty open.”
Cameron Gunter, a 6'8" forward out of Ridley High School in Pennsylvania listed college of interest to include Penn, Columbia, Siena, Northeastern, Holy Cross, West Chester (DII), Lafayette, and Rider. “I’m liking UPenn. I’m kind of deep in discussion [with them]. We went over financial aid and stuff.” When asked if he had a dream school, he responded, “Not really. I’m more [looking] for the education. I’m trying to get into a good school.”
Melsahn Basabe, a 6'7" forward out of the St. Mark's School in Massachusetts lists Penn, Siena, Stanford, Boston University, Northeastern, Hawaii, St. John’s, George Washington, Pitt, Wake Forest, Fairfield, Rhode Island, Fordham, Bucknell, and Old Dominion. When asked if he had a favorite or a dream school, he responded, “Not really right now because my recruiting is coming up to a new level. A Big East school that fits my style of play or a really good academic school in a high-major conference.”
Aaron Brown of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, NJ, a 6'4" guard, said he is hearing from Harvard, Penn, Auburn, Miami, Providence, Virginia Tech, Virginia, and Penn State. He said he had offers from Harvard, Penn, Auburn, Providence, Virginia Tech, and Virginia and that his leaders were Harvard and Penn.
Rasi Jenkins, a 6'7" forward out of Bishop Loughlin in New York said he is receiving interest from Niagara, Cornell, Quinnipiac, Old Dominion, St. Peter’s, and Kent State, but does not have any offers. He noted Cornell was his favorite. ScoutsInc. evaluates him as follows:
very good leaping ability and athleticism, which he uses to make an impact on the game. He crashes the boards very well, particularly on the offensive end, using his hops to go up high for rebounds. He has to get stronger in order to power up in traffic and convert once he secures the offensive rebound, which would also go a long way toward improving his touch and accuracy around the hoop. Jenkins will also hit the jumper for from free-throw line extended, but he needs to continue to improve there and enhance his form as he puts the ball behind his head slightly. Jenkins also uses his leaping ability to contest shots and will block a good number of shots as a weak-side help defender. He also runs well and can finish plays in transition.
Pe’Shon Howard, a 6'2" guard out of the Oak Hill Academy in Virginia listed Stanford, Arkansas, Harvard, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Virginia, Rutgers, South Carolina, Arizona, and Xavier and mentioned he had offers from each of those schools except Arizona.
“[I am] keeping my options open at least until school starts.”
Howard, who said he has a 3.7 GPA, said “the schools I talk to the most right now are Stanford, Arkansas, Harvard, Virginia Tech, and Alabama."
Rakeem Brookins a 5'10" point guard from Roman Catholic HS in Philadelphia lists Georgia Tech, Georgetown, Clemson, Stanford, Princeton, Brown, Penn, James Madison, George Mason, Drexel, William & Mary, Delaware, St. Joseph’s, Temple, La Salle, Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth. He said
he has offers from Penn, George Mason, Delaware, and Virginia Commonwealth and that Penn led for his services. But Georegtown remains as his "dream school."
