COLUMBIA OPENS IVY PLAY VS. DEFENDING CHAMPS
For the fourth straight year, Columbia and Cornell will open Ivy League action against each other in consecutive weekends. The league’s travel partners have each finished in the top half of the league over the past three seasons as the Lions have the first shot in league action against the two-time defending champions. Cornell has won the last three meetings in Ithaca, but last year’s 11-point win was the widest margin of victory during that stretch. The Lions’ last win over the Big Red came on January 21, 2006 at Newman Arena, 58-57.
20-20 VISION
Sophomore Noruwa Agho has scored at least 20 points eight times this season, the most among Ivy League players so far this season. Agho enters action as the top three-point shooter in the nation, as he is making 56.5 percent of his shots from three-point range (39 of 69 this season).
SENIOR MOMENTS
Columbia’s senior trio of Kevin Bulger, Patrick Foley and Niko Scott have helped lead the Lions to 48 wins during their careers in a Lion uniform. The group has a chance to combine for the most wins over a four-year period since the class of 1979, headlined by Alton Byrd and Ricky Free, which won 56 games from the 1975-76 season to 1978-79. The recent Columbia senior classes of 2008 and 2009 each had 53 wins during their four-year careers.
COLUMBIA LEADS THE NATION IN THREE-POINT SHOOTING
Over the first 14 games of the season, Columbia ranks first among all NCAA Division I teams in three-point accuracy. The Lions are shooting 44.1 percent from beyond the arc so far this season, making 79 of 179 three-point attempts. Columbia is ahead of third-ranked Kansas, which has made 42.9 percent of its three-pointers this season.
